JONESBORO, LA -- Jackson Parish Schools Superintendent Wayne Alford says Southside Elementary School will be closed Thursday, April 17th.

Alford says he chose to close the school after the second lice outbreak in less than a week. He says closing the school Thursday will allow for the entire facility to be disinfected over the Easter weekend.

Alford says several pre-k and kindergarten students were found to have lice last Thursday. He says officials believed they contained the issue, but Wednesday several teachers and second grade students were also found to have lice. The superintendent says he believes fewer than 20 people are affected and calls it a 'minor' outbreak.

All Southside Elementary Schools students and teachers will be back in session on Tuesday, April 22nd.
