MONROE (LSP)-- Louisiana State Police say a man died after being hit by a vehicle around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 165 south of Interstate 20.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 28-year-old Kary Davis of Monroe, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 165 when it struck an unidentified black male that was in the right lane.
Davis was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner's Office.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash on the part of Davis. Davis provided a breath sample that indicated no alcohol. Impairment on the part of the pedestrian is unknown. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers are asking anyone with information regarding the pedestrian's identity to call 318-345-0000.
Troop F has investigated 19 fatal crashes which have resulted in 19 deaths so far this year.
