Welcome to Home Health House Calls.
The macula is the center of the retina. Dry Macular Degeneration is the deterioration of the macula and causes vision loss in the center of your field of vision. Symptoms associated with this type of Macular Degeneration usually develop gradually. Vision changes you may notice are impaired ability to see colors or fine details, difficulty recognizing faces, overall haziness, need for brighter light, or crooked central vision. Treatment cannot reverse dry macular degeneration, but it may slow the progression. To cope with your changing vision you can talk to your doctor about eyeglasses, use brighter lights in your home and use increased caution when driving. Having macular degeneration can be difficult, and you may need to make many changes in your life. You may go through many emotions as you adjust to having macular degeneration.
