UNION Parish - An 89-year-old mother told Union Parish sheriff’s deputies that her daughter pulled her from a wheelchair and then beat her with a walking cane.
Sheriff Dusty Gates said deputies ended up arresting Linda Diane Buckner, 56, of 134 Short Rd., Sterlington, for battery on a person with infirmities, two counts of resisting arrest and simple criminal damage to property.
Buckner was booked into the parish detention Sunday afternoon. No bond will be set until Buckner appears before a judge in Third Judicial District Court for a hearing, Gates said.
Deputies received the complaint Sunday morning from the suspect’s mother who stated that Buckner had come home about midnight. The mother told deputies that she smelled what she thought was suspected marijuana and her daughter talking with someone.
The mother said she had to get into her wheelchair so she could go to the door to let Buckner into the house. After smelling suspected marijuana, the mother said she demanded her daughter to get out of the house at which time she was pulled from her wheelchair and beaten with the cane.
Deputies took photographs of two large bumps on the mother’s left arm where she had attempted to protect herself from her attacker.
Deputies received word Sunday afternoon that Buckner had returned to the residence and kicked the door in causing damage. The deputies reported they heard someone moving around in an outdoor building. The person refused to come of the building, but deputies finally found her hiding in a corner.
