WMPD searching for armed robbery suspect following 9-hour standoff

WEST MONROE, La. - UPDATE: After seven hours, it was determined the suspect was not inside the residence, according to police. The suspect described is a white male that is believed to be armed. At this time no other information is available.

West Monroe Police are currently on scene of a 7 hour long standoff.

According to Seargent C.J. Beck with the West Monroe Police Department, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. 

An officer was approached by a victim involved in an armed robbery. The victim was unharmed.

Initial investigation lead officers to a house on Rex Street in West Monroe where they believe the suspect is. All of the people inside the house are reported to be safe, but the suspect is barricaded inside the house.

Police have deployed their SWAT team and are negotiating, but still have not made contact with the suspect. The suspect is not complying with their verbal commands to talk.

Officials are unsure of who all is in the house.

Police are aware of who the suspect is, but they are not releasing the identity at this time.
