Willis-Knighton lays off 55 employees

Blames cuts on state medicaid expansion

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL) - Willis Knighton is laying off 55 employees, saying the decision is because of the state of Louisiana.

Another 177 jobs will be cut through retirement and attrition.

Willis Knighton is blaming the cuts on the state's Medicaid expansion.

"This difficult decision was unavoidable because of the rapid expansion by the state of Medicaid coverage without adequate state funding to support that expansion. This has caused problems for many hospitals, and for Willis-Knighton, one of the largest providers of services to Medicaid patients in the state, it has resulted in an approximately 40 percent increase in unfunded costs from last year" said Willis-Knighton spokeswoman Marilyn Joiner.
