UPDATE: Suspect arrested in connection to two bank robberies

Investigators: man said he was armed

WEST MONROE, La. - UPDATE (9//27/17 7:30 A.M.)

According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, John Easton was arrested in Shreveport overnight and is now in custody.

UPDATE (9/27/17 12:00 A.M.):

Ouachita parish officials have linked one suspect to two separate bank robberies.

John Ira Easton is accused of robbing Woodforest Bank inside the Walmart at 2701 Louisville Avenue in Monroe and Origins Bank at 5084 Cypress Street just hours later.

Monroe City police say Tuesday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. the 40-year-old walked into the Woodforest Bank approached a teller and demanded cash.

Police say he did not show a weapon to anyone while at the bank, and he left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Then around 3:45 p.m. Ouachita Parish Sheriffs responded to and armed robbery at the Origins Bank in West Monroe.

Investigators say the man, also identified as Easton, walked into the bank branch, told the teller he was armed, and left after he got an undetermined amount of cash.

Easton is being sought by OPSO on the charge of First Degree Robbery.

He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans and walks with a limp.

He is believed to be driving a light blue 2013 Mazda CX5, bearing LA. License WJX129.

UPDATE (9/26/17 9:30 P.M) 

Officials have named 40-year-old John Easton of Monroe as the man linked to the robbery of Origin Bank in West Monroe and the Woodforest bank in Monroe.

He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans, and walks with a limp.

He is believed to be driving a light blue 2013 Mazda CX5 with the Louisiana license plate WJX19.

(9/26/2017) The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed bank robbery at the Origins Bank this afternoon. Investigators tell us it happened around 3:45 p.m. at 5084 Cypress Street. 

Investigators say the man walked into the West Monroe bank, told the teller he was armed, and left after he got an undetermined amount of cash. No one was hurt. Deputies ask anyone with information to call the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 329-1200.
