Union Parish man arrested for meth in his front yard

UNION Parish - A Union Parish man has been arrested for felony possession of methamphetamines after being arrested in his front yard.

Raymond Weathersby Jr., 62, of 285 Proctor Rd., Spearsville, was arrested late Saturday night when a patrol deputy noticed that there was not a functioning license plate light on the suspect’s pickup truck.

When the deputy trying stopping Weathersby, he continued driving until he reached his residence, Sheriff Dusty Gates said.

Weathersby told the deputy that his driver’s license had been suspended. The deputy reported that Weathersby and his passenger seemed nervous and he asked to search the vehicle and was granted permission.

The deputy found a small plastic bag in a wallet that contained suspected meth. The suspect said it belonged to him.

The passenger also told the deputy that both of them used drugs on a daily basis so the deputy also asked permission to search the residence and was granted permission. Gates said the deputy found another small baggie containing suspected meth.

Bond on the meth charges was set at $2,750. The court did not require bond on the charges of driving under suspension and no license plate light.
