UNION Parish - A corrections officer at the Union Parish Detention Center in Farmerville has been arrested and booked for malfeasance in office.
Larry Cheney Jr., 35, of 529 Hudson Rd., Farmerville, was arrested Wednesday after a two-week investigation by the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Dusty Gates said the sheriff’s office had received reports that prisoners were receiving items inside the prison that were not allowed.
“He was taking some items in there and getting paid for them,” Gates said. “Our investigation led to him as a suspect.”
Cheney’s bond was set at $15,000. Gates said Cheney admitted to investigators that he was selling prohibited items to the inmates.
