Uber comes to Twin Cities as the first ride sharing app

Monroe, LA - A bus or taxi are no longer the only forms of transportation in the twin cities. Uber has officially launched in the cities of Monroe and West Monroe.

Today at City Hall, Mayor Jamie Mayo and Uber Officials announced the launch of the new app to start service at noon today.

With the simple click of a button the Uber App will be able to take the rider from one destination to the next.

"I think it's great, I think we've been needing it for a long time, I think it's going to give a lot of people some opportunities to make extra income and just those quick pick-ups and deliveries that people need all across the twin cities," said new Uber driver Kenneth Harper.

Uber does put every driver prospect through both a driving and criminal history check. This is done to ensure the utmost safety of both the riders and the drivers, said Uber Public Affairs Manager Evangeline George.

If you want to become an Uber driver there are guidelines that you and your vehicle must meet and those can be found here: https://www.uber.com/drive/requirements/.
