MOREHOUSE Parish - The two men accused of slitting a dog's throat on Snapchat appeared in court today.
Both Steven Sadler and Boots Stanley were in Morehouse Parish Court Monday (7/17/17) for a discovery hearing.
Here defense attorneys questioned Bastrop Police Captain Carl Givens about his investigation and suggested the killing could be protected under state and local laws.
Lawyers referenced a Bastrop City ordinance that says Pitbulls are considered 'dangerous' dogs and therefore face certain requirements such as muzzling.
They also discussed state law that says any citizen may kill any 'dangerous or vicious' dog and be liable for damages or prosecution.
The case's next hearing is set for October 31, 2017.
