Teen seriously hurt after falling behind levee near Forsythe Park

MONROE, La -- - A bad accident for a young girl in Monroe, is causing parents to think twice about safety.

It scares me to know that dangers like that are out there and there's nothing protecting our kid.

Bailey Blackstock, a sophomore at West Ouachita High School, is being treated at university health in Shreveport after sustaining serious injuries to her head and back.

Family and friends now sending thoughts and prayers on Facebook.

When resident, Kelly Coats, heard the news she was concerned about the safety of more kids in the future.

It says that she just slipped and fell but that's just you know concerning to me that she can just slip and fall so easily and get hurt like that.

The big question is could this accident have been avoided?

Witnesses say Bailey was hanging out with two friends in this area behind a levee when she slipped and fell.

"She just slipped and fell but that's just you know concerning to me that she can just slip and fall so easily and get hurt like that," Coats said.

According to residents and business owners, this is a popular place for teens in the neighborhood to come and hang out but as you can see it's not exactly the safest.

Some parents believe this dangerous area should be closed off where kids can't get to it.

"There needs to be more security at these type of places to prevent these kinds of injuries," Coats said.

Accidents do happen but city officials may be looking into ways to keep these types from happening again.
