LASALLE Parish - The LaSalle Parish Sheriff's Office wants you to be cautious with a new update to Snapchat.
Snapchat's latest update includes a feature called "Snap Map" which connects to your GPS and (unless activated ghost mode) shows where you are on a map to anyone who follows you - down to your exact location on your street.
Some snaps can also possibly be seen publicly depending on your settings.
The LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office is sharing another agency’s post and recommending those with snapchat turn on "Ghost Mode" to avoid showing your location.
To do this, open the app and pinch the screen. This will load the map. When you do it for the first time it should ask you if you want to activate ghost mode. If it doesn't, click on the icon in the top right hand corner, where you will be able to tick a box putting ghost mode on.
Everyone is cautioned to be careful about what they are sharing, and limit your snaps to only people you know personally.
Be safe and be smart about how you use social media!
