RUSTON, La. - UPDATE (3/12/18): A Ruston family is mourning the loss of a son, uncle, and brother after a tragic wreck they say could have been prevented.
Stacy braggs says losing her twin brother to a car crash has sent a shock through her family.
"When I first found out, my younger brother Brandon Braggs called me and it was like a feeling that went over my whole body," says Stacy, twin sister of Tracy.
27-year-old Tracy Braggs was driving along Martin Luther King Drive when he lost control of the vehicle.
When first responders arrived at the scene around 11:22 p.m., his car was overturned in a nearby tree line.
Tracy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Stacy says her children had a special connection with their uncle Tracy.
"He loved them so much and he would do anything for anyone of them," says Stacy.
Neighbor Trayce Calcote says he remembers Braggs from childhood.
"Well he grew up here in the neighborhood with us, I'm actually a twin. His mother actually named him and his sister after me and my twin sister so I've been knowing him since birth and he was a good guy," says Calcote, neighbor.
Ruston Police say that in all instances, there are certain precautions drivers should take.
"You never want to drive your car in excess of the posted speeds and you never want to drive your vehicle than you physically can control. And you always want to wear your seat belt as both the occupant and driver of the car," says Clint Williams, Deputy Chief of Ruston Police.
Stacy says that everyone should take this as a lesson to cherish family members and be careful while driving.
A Ruston man has died after her vehicle overturned.
On Sunday, March 11, 2018 at approximately 11:22 AM, Officers from the Uniform Patrol Division of the Ruston Police Department responded to a reported single-vehicle crash on Martin Luther King Drive between its intersections with South Farmerville Street and Vernon Street. Upon their arrival, an overturned 2007 Pontiac G6 was located in a nearby tree line.
The unrestrained driver, identified as Tracy Deshun Braggs, 27 YOA from Ruston, was located unresponsive in the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s Office. While the investigation is still ongoing, Crash Investigators believe that excessive speed is a contributing factor in the crash. The driver was also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Routine toxicological testing will be conducted as a part of this investigation.
