Four hundred thousand words are what spellers from across Louisiana had to try to remember today at the Regional Spelling Bee.
Family and friends gathered in Howard Auditorium at Louisiana Tech University to cheer on students.
This was the first year the university hosted the competition.
Nearly 30 students from 25 parishes hoped to advance to the national competition in Washington D.C.
"They do have their own strategies for navigating those tough words, and there are some of the returning spellers who have strategies like spelling in their hand, and things like that," Lindsey Keith-Vincent, Organizer said. "Again, their capacity for that information and ability, it's remarkable."
