Sterlington, La.-- - Sterlington resident and local sports booster Greg McDonald said his children grew up traveling around the state for baseball tournaments.
Now one of the largest tournaments in the nation, the Dixie Major World Series, is coming to Ouachita Parish the next two years.
"It's good to see it," McDonald said. "I wish they had it when mine were younger, but I can see the other ones benefiting from it now so it's a good thing."
McDonald said he knows firsthand how these large tournaments can help boost the local economy.
"When we traveled, we saw how much money we'd spend on the weekends so its good to see it coming back to this area," he added.
The games will be played at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the now under-construction Sterlington Sports Complex.
Organizers said more than 1,000 spectators, family and friends will travel here and stay a full week.
"I think the community supports it, I think the community likes to see baseball here and they get behind these teams when they come in town," said Scott Bruscato, a spokesperson for the Monroe West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau.
It's a move local business owners such as Kyle Keyes, the manager of Endzone Bar and Grill in Sterlington, also support.
"It's gonna be a big event and especially owning a restaurant here in Sterlington we love hearing that because you got people outside of town spending money in Sterlington," Keyes added.
It's an event that will bring baseball and business to Ouachita Parish.
