Official: Man stops, helps woman, ends up stabbing boyfriend

DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (WJTV) - Authorities say a man who had been helping a woman with car trouble ended up stabbing the woman’s boyfriend during an argument.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2lhID17) 45-year-old Matthew Danko of Kiln faces an aggravated assault charge.

Hancock County sheriff’s Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan says Danko had driven the stranded motorist to a gas station Monday and they were returning to her car when the woman’s boyfriend, Vance Starita, pulled up behind them and tried to get Danko to pull over.

Danko stopped at a gas station, where Grannan says the men got into a fight. Grannan says at some point, Danko pulled a pocket knife and stabbed the boyfriend in the back. Authorities say Danko told investigators he stabbed Starita in self-defense.

It’s unclear if Danko has an attorney.
