Nephew arrested in burglary of aunt's house

WEST MONROE, La. - West Monroe Police have arrested a man accused of burglarizing his aunt’s home.

Deshaun Lawrence, 19 of West Monroe, has been arrested for one count of simple burglary.

According to the arrest report, the incident occurred Sunday (June 11, 2017) around 8:18 a.m.

West Monroe officers responded to 112 Apple Street in reference to a burglary.

Officers noticed a window in the back of the home was broken. Deshaun Lawrence exited the residence. Lawrence was placed in a patrol unit. Lawrence said his friends waved him down while driving and informed him someone had broken into the residence.

Lawrence said he saw a black speaker and cardboard box under the carport when he arrived and place both items in his vehicle.

Lawrence then said the front door was unlocked and entered the residence to make sure everything was okay.

Lawrence said the residence was his aunt’s and he was unable to provide a key to the officers.

The complainant said he saw Lawrence enter the residence through the back window but did not see him break the window. Officers called the home owner.

The homeowner made it clear that Lawrence was his nephew and he was not allowed to be at the house.

Officers recovered a black and red vehicle speaker and an empty cardboard box in Lawrence’s vehicle.

Lawrence was arrested for one count of simple burglary.

He is currently in the Ouachita Correctional Center on a $8,000.00 bond.
