Monroe track club needs help from community to chase their dreams

MONROE, La. - A local group of young athletes have set their bar high and for a good reason.

The Massey Miracle Run Track Club has a winning attitude and it shows.

"Each year we have at least 30 to 40 kids to make it to the [Junior] Olympics," Coah Detrick Massey said.

"They compete and they're competitive on every level."

Word around town is the team, from age six all the way to the 18-year-olds,  is pretty good, but if you want to see how good, they say you have to come out and see.

For their Coach Massey, it's what they do off the track that matters most.

"What I try to do is keep the kids out of trouble in the community, to keep them focused and traveling to see different things in the world," she said.

Helping them reach their full potential.

"These kids really don't know how much talent they have until they put out."

"Now they prepare to host one of the biggest track meets the City of Monroe has ever seen when they host a United States Track and Field event on June 22, 2018.

"Over 1500 athletes coming down to the City of Monroe and we're trying to make this thing as successful as possible," Massey said.

Hoever, they're in need of some help.

"We just need a lot of financial help for us to have a good track meet," Runner Nautica Caldwell said.

As a non-profit organization, they're asking for the community's help with donations to help them handle the expenses that they will face in the summer.

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo decided to kick off support with a $500 donation, giving the kids hope.

"I was like yes we need this help," Caldwell said.

If you're wondering why support? They believe they can show you better than they can tell you.

"Just come out here and watch, come watch what we do because usually we put on a show," Runner Johnathan West said.

"We're trying to bring it out to let the world know let the city know that this thing is real," Massey said.

Some of the Massey Miracle Track Club's high schoolers will be showcasing their talent at the Wossman Relays March 28, 2018.

The meet kicks off at 4pm.
