UPDATE: Former Choir Director faces more charges; Accused of inapropriate relations with student

MONROE, La. - UPDATE: [3/2/2017 7:50 p.m.]

The former choir director of Neville High School is facing charges, including alleged sexual misconduct with students. 

25-year-old Christian Amos faces two additional counts, including distribution of drugs. 

Amos is accused of providing marijuana to students trying to entice them into sexual relationships.

He resigned from his position at Neville High School back in January.

He's currently being held at OCC.

The former choir director of Neville High School is now behind bars.

Arrest reports said 25-year-old Christian Amos gave marijuana to students, trying to lure them into sexual relationships. 

"It's just a shock, you know, they would have someone in the school system like this," parent Calandra Hill said. "I mean did they even do a background check? You know? It's horrible."

Five victims came forward to police, all students at Neville. Four of the the victims were boys. 

Arrest reports said that some of the incidents happened inside the teacher's classroom at the high school, while other's happened at Amos's home.

Victims told investigators they would go to his apartment in Monroe, to smoke marijuana provided by Amos.

Police said Amos offered to perform sexual acts in exchange for gas money. 

The news left many fellow students shocked.

"It's definitely odd going to school with someone like that was there, it's just odd- you know," student Max Mitchell said. 

"I just knew they were doing stuff outside of school," student Essence Lewis said. "I just thought it was a choir thing- I didn't know it was like that."

Monroe City School Superintendent Brent Vidrine said Amos resigned in January without an explanation. 

"I just thought he quit or something he just left, but now I understand there was something else behind there," Mitchell added. 

"I mean Neville is still a good school. You just never know what's going to happen. Stuff happens every day," Hill said.  

He faces multiple charges including sexual conduct between educator and student, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and distribution of marijuana. 

We reached out to the school's assistant principal who refused to comment on the issue.

Amos is currently being held at OCC on a $90,000 bond. 


An investigation by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit has led to the issuance of warrants and the arrest of Christian J. Amos, age 25 of Monroe. 

Amos is currently being held at the Ouachita Correctional Center on 4 counts of Prohibited Sexual Conduct Between Educator and Student, 1 ct. of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile, and 4 cts. of Distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance.

The FBI Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force and Safe Streets Task Force, Monroe Police Dept. and the Louisiana State Police assisted in the investigation, which is continuing.

His bond has ben set at $90,000.00.
