Miss Taste of the Twin Cities prepares for the big pageant

MONROE, La -- - The road to crowning our new Miss Louisiana has begun, but for a young lady right here in the Twin Cities it has been a long time coming.

J'Lyn Henderson, Miss Taste of Twin Cities, has been preparing for this moment.

"I'm really excited to let it unfold this year on the stage because it's actually the most preparing I've ever done," Henderson said.

For her, the beginning of this journey started in a dark place.

"I was going through a deep depression at that time in my life because of my parents divorcing and so she was kind of looking for something to bring me back to life," she said.

Now she gains confidence with every pageant she's trying to finish what she started

"She's not going to leave that stage without knowing that she didn't try her best," her sister, Morgan Tate, said.

"Since then I've been working out every week and for the month of June I've been working out three times a week and my voice lessons were weekly in Shreveport so every weekend I was driving to Shreveport from Monroe," Henderson said.

"Just over the years we learn different techniques to make everything easier preparing way ahead of time," her mom, Felicia Badger, said.

Her support system now stronger than ever.

"My mom my sister and my grandmother have never missed a pageant," Henderson said.

Her mom is the supervisor behind the scenes.

"Sticking to the schedule just making sure we stay on task with everything," Badger said.

However, it doesn't mean things always run smoothly. Families fight sometimes and frustration turns into arguments because of high expectations.

Nevertheless, it's out of love and J'Lyn is prepared to give it her all and show what it takes to be the next Miss Louisiana.

"I'm sure she gets nervous getting out there on that stage with so many people in front of her but she say she's ready this year," Badger said.

"Just helping her and knowing that she's going have a smile on her face while she's doing something she loves," Tate said.

J'Lyn wants to win but she's enjoying the journey with the people she loves most.

"I never have to feel bad about not placing top 10 or not leaving with the crown because they're just proud that I'm even up there doing what i do," she said.
