Man wields knife, robs local paint store

MONTICELLO, Ark. - A man has been arrested after robbing a south Arkansas paint store with a knife.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017, a white male entered the Sherwin Williams paint store on highway 425 south in Monticello.

He asked the clerk about some paint and then produced a knife and demanded money. The clerk opened the cash drawer and the suspect placed the money and cash drawer into a trash can and went to exit the business.

Before he made it to the front door, the manager came into the store and asked the suspect what was he doing.

The suspect told the manager that he "was taking the trash out". When he left the store, the clerk came from the back and told the manager that she was just robbed. The manager went outside and saw the suspect run towards the west from the business.

Police were called and searched for the suspect throughout the night. At approximately 7:00am the following morning, a worker from Custom Wood Cabinets, opened the door to the business and saw someone in the office area.

He called the police and the suspect was arrested without incident.

The suspect, Jacob Foster, was released from St. Francis County in Arkansas, on November 30th and hitchhiked to Monticello on his way to Texas.

Foster has been identified by the victims as the one who committed the armed robbery the night before. At this time, Foster has been charged with Aggravated Robbery, Commercial Burglary and Theft of Property.

His bond has been set at $250,000.
