Man arrested for shooting Baton Rouge teenager with birdshot pellets on Saturday

Michael Scheidt WVLA - BATON ROUGE, La. (LOCAL 33) (FOX 44) - A teenage boy was taken to a local hospital with injuries after being shot with birdshot pellets in the McCastle Avenue area on Saturday afternoon. 

Deputies responded around 3:00 p.m. to a residence located at 14011 Northgate Drive in reference to a shooting. 

Upon arriving deputies learned that a 16 year-old male had suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and facial area. 

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, the victim stated that 21-year-old Dalvin Coates, of Baton Rouge shot him after a verbal altercation.

Coates was identified as the shooter by detectives and taken into custody. 

After questioning Coates was charged with attempted 2nd-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
