UNION Parish - A Marion resident has been charged with a felony count of criminal damage to property after he reportedly destroyed merchandise owned by his now ex-girlfriend.

Union Parish sheriff’s deputies said the victim stated she had been in a short two-week relationship with Garret Ty Carreira, 48, when they got into an argument Tuesday afternoon.

The victim stated that Carreira got upset and started throwing things destroying among other things, two television sets valued at more than $1,400.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said that investigating deputies also found a bag of marijuana, containing less than 14 grams, in a bedroom and both Carriera and the victim, Michelle Bergeron, 41, of Wheeler Road, Marion, denied ownership.

Carriera was booked into the Union Parish Detention Center for criminal damage to property of more than $1,000 and simple possession of marijuana. His bond on the damage to property count was $2,500.

No bond was required on the simple possession charge which also applied to Bergeron.
