Man arrested after 100 mph pursuit through town

WEST MONROE, La. - A Monroe man has been arrested after leading officers on a high speed chase.

Matthew Dugas, 33 of Monroe, was arrested Wednesday, November 8, 2017 around 1:00 p.m.

According to the arrest report, West Monroe Police saw Dugas driving with a busted tail light on Thomas Road at Glenwood Drive.

Officers initiated a traffic stop at WalMart, but Dugas drove off.

Officers followed Dugas at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. Dugas traveled in the opposite lane of travel and ran multiple red lights.

Dugas continued to drive until he reached the dead end of North Violet Street where the driver exited the vehicle and ran from officers on foot.

Officers ran after Dugas and finally took him into custody.

Dugas told officers he ran because he was on parole.

Dugas’ driver’s license was suspended and he had no insurance on his vehicle and the tags on his vehicle were switched.

During a search of his vehicle, officers found a plastic bag containing approximately one gram of powder cocaine.

Dugas was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on multiple charges.

His bond has been set at $15,800.00.
