Mississippi man accused of molestation a Union Parish girl since she was 11 years old

UNION PARISH, La. - (6/4/2018) A former resident of Union Parish, who was living in Mississippi, has been returned to the parish and jailed on sex-related charges.

William L. Kersh, 37, of Leland, Mississippi, was booked Friday into the Union Parish Detention Center on charges of molestation of a juvenile and oral sexual battery. His total bond is set at $70,000.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said UPSO received a complaint March 23 accusing Kersh of having sexual relations with a young female beginning when she was 11 years old. The victim, who is now 18 and undergoing counseling for depression, detailed many episodes of sexual abuse to detectives and with forensic counselors at Pine Hills Advocacy Center in Ruston, Gates said.

Kersh reportedly left Union Parish in July 2017 and was living in Leland, Mississippi until his arrest there on warrants issued by UPSO sheriff’s detectives. He was arrested in Leland May 29 and was extradited back to Union Parish on June 1.

Sheriff’s detectives reported that Kersh has a previous charge of contributing to a delinquency of a juvenile on his criminal record in Mississippi.
