Local students watch 'Hidden Figures,' and kindle an interest in STEM careers

MONROE, La - Hollywood has helped give more than 200  eighth-grade students from Ouachita Parish Schools a lesson in what is possible.

The students packed Pecanland Mall Friday to see 'Hidden Figures' about the critical role that African-American women played in NASA in the 1960's.

Chase Bank along with the Chamber of Commerce hosted the event to show students the options a 'STEM' career  In Science, Technology, Engineering or  Math could have on their lives.

"It is a really good experience to learn how women evolved from not being able to do much to being able to do things such as calculate numbers for rockets to send people to space," said student Allandra Washington.

After the movie, students could get their questions answered directly from women in STEM related careers.
