OUACHITA PARISH, La. - The first day of spring is just around the corner. Some of our leaders are joining forces to help with a little cleaning.
Elected officials and community leaders have signed a pledge to spread the word and lead the way to make Louisiana and Ouachita Parish litter-free.
Organizers say this commitment goes a long way to making sure we protect natural resources across the Pelican State.
"We've got a very diverse bayous, rivers, wetlands, that we need to protect. And a lot of the litter that's been thrown out usually ends up in our waterways in those areas.", says Stuart Hodnett, a coordinator for Ouachita Green.
This serves as a preview for the annual Great-American clean-up. That's scheduled for later this spring in Ouachita Parish.
