MONROE, La. - The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) and Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) are embarking on an adventure that is sure to leave proof of the commitment of both organizations to service of the State of Louisiana. This joint venture is made possible because LDCC secured the statewide bid to host the Louisiana Small Business Development Centers network headquarters, which will officially begin operations on the Monroe Campus January 1, 2018.
The headquarters operation was previously housed at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). The regional office for northeast Louisiana will continue to operate on the campus of ULM.
LSBDC State Director, Rande Kessler shares, "The LSBDC strategy is straight-forward: assist Louisiana in economic development by driving success of the small business component. Everyone associated with the statewide network has an important role to play; whether consulting, training, coordinating, managing or partnering. And every role results in opportunities for small businesses to start, grow, and expand. The newest partnership between the LSBDC and LDCC brings fresh synergy between small business entrepreneurs and workforce development. The Louisiana Community and Technical College System understands and delivers the education to a workforce that might either be employed by a small business, or start a small business in Louisiana. The LSBDC understands and delivers the education to the entrepreneurs that start and grow those small businesses. I find it very exciting to think that these two economic development engines are now connected together in multiplied horsepower. The combined engines’ RPM now stands for Return-on-investment Per Minute!"
The LSBDC has seven service centers across Louisiana with multiple offices, often sharing space on the campuses of universities. LDCC has eight campuses across northeast Louisiana with the main campus being in Monroe, which is where the LSBDC will soon take up residence. “LDCC is so honored to have been selected as the host institution for the headquarters of Louisiana SBDC. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and play a critical role in improving the quality of life for Louisiana citizens. Our commitment as the host institution is to do everything possible to support business growth and development across the State. In so doing, we are partnered tightly with Louisiana Economic Development and share passion and zeal for service to all segments of the State, including increased emphasis on serving rural markets as well as our urban and suburban opportunities,” explains Dennis Epps, Chancellor of LDCC.
This partnership is a very snug fit where the entire state will become benefactors. SBA Louisiana District Director, Mike Ricks says, “We are very pleased with our new partnership with LDCC as host center for our state's Small Business Development Center network. The creative energy and ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking Chancellor Epps and his talented staff bring to our effort and mission I am sure will yield excellent results and service the small businesses we all serve.”
The LSBDC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, Louisiana Economic Development and participating universities. There are many arms existing to promote the birth of small businesses, ensure their survival, and prepare a skilled workforce to help them thrive. Louisiana Delta Community College is proud to be a part of it all!
