House damaged during standoff in West Monroe, homeowner's could foot the bill

(6/11/2018) The damage very visible, a home now in shambles after the search for an armed robbery suspect in West Monroe.

In the midst of the standoff, doors were torn of the hinges, windows were broken and glass and furniture scattered throughout.

But, who will make this home livable again? Who will pay for the repairs?
Police said they are not responsible for the damage.

Experts says this case could get tricky.

"I would rank this on a scale of 1 to 10... a ten," said insurance agent, Gene Galligan.

Galligan is president of Monroe's oldest insurance agency said this could end up in court.

"What would probably happen in this case if they had the broad coverage the company would pay. Then they would turn around and subrogate for negligence for the police department," said Galligan.

He said the basic policies cover fire, hail and lightening.
With no mention of bizarre situations like this one with law enforcement.

"Depending on the company that it's with and the coverages that they write it may or not be covered," said Galligan.

A price that could cost thousands.

"Anywhere from 1,000 to 2,500 or to a percentage of the value of the dwelling," said Galligan.

He said the best thing homeowners can do to protect their property is get maximum coverage.

"A dwelling-3 policy policy for a leaser and homeowner's-3 for the homeowner. A homeowner's-3 is all risk that's the way they define it except for those things that are excluded and a dwelling 3 is basically the same," said Galligan.

A choice he said will help cover you in nearly all cases.

Now, we reached out to Keto Properties the owner of the home on Rex Street, but they declined to comment on the damages.

If that changes we will be sure to update you.

As for the suspects police are searching for, WMPD identified them as Christopher Williams and Brittany Sample. If you recognize them and know where they are, call Crime Stoppers at (318) 388-CASH, and you could get up to a $2,000 reward.
