Homer man dies in early-morning crash

Victim not wearing seat belt, ejected from vehicle, dying at scene

Nancy Cook - WEBSTER PARISH, La. - An early-morning rollover crash in Webster Parish has claimed the life of a Homer man.

Jefferson Clay Rogers, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on US Highway 79, just north of LA 518.

Just before 1 a.m. today, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the one-vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Nissan Frontier operated by Rogers was traveling south on US 79, when for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the truck, exited the right side of the roadway, and overturned. 

Rogers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected, sustaining fatal injuries.

The possibility of impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.
