Home Intruder Suspect Accused Of Targeting Older Women Is Behind Bars

Morehouse Parish, La.-- - "I got a lotta fear in me because it's a lot of older people who live over here and didn't nobody in the community hear nothing," Bastrop resident Jerri Harris said.

Harris was left shocked after learning what happened right around the corner from her house, at a home on Hargrove Avenue.

"I think it should have been known a lot sooner before they caught him," Harris added.

Police said 67-year-old Jerry Peck threatened a woman, about the same age as him, with a gun to get inside her home.

"Once there, he punched her in the face and kicked her and tied her up," Bastrop Police Chief Allen Campbell said.

After swiping credit cards and I.D.'s, the intruder got away. This incident happened Monday.

Two days later another woman, also in her sixties, went to the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office with a strikingly similar story.

She told authorities that someone broke into her home, along  Old Bonita Road, and assaulted her.

"When she told me about it, the crime sounded very familiar to the one Bastrop P.D. was working," Sheriff Mike Tubbs said.

Officers and deputies worked together, using descriptions of the attacker's clothing and vehicle to find and arrest him.

Sheriff Tubbs said he believes the two were targeted because they were older, and both were home alone.

Wednesday night he was arrested and booked into OCC. He faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and armed robbery.

While Peck hasn't been charged for the Old Bonita Road incident, Sheriff Tubbs said he's their main suspect.

As for neighbors, they said it's important for the community to stick together.

"You know, just looking out for each other more," Harris said. "You know, they hear something or say something you know, they should call their neighbor or whatever and let them know something strange is going on."

Police said you should always be careful when answering your doorbell, or opening your door to a stranger.

Sheriff Tubbs said Peck has a lengthy criminal history. He added that he expects their investigation to be wrapped up within the next few days.
