(The News-Star) - According to our partners at The News-Star, Shirley, the elephant who lived in Monroe for more than 20 years, celebrated her 69th birthday with cake this week.
Her caretakers at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, made the grande dame a vegan carrot birthday cake. It was topped with granola, wheat cereal, carrots, and jellybeans and surrounded by melons, banana leaves, bamboo and hay. Then she visited the mud wallow.
Sissy and Tarra, the other elephants in her habitat, got party bags with cookies, wheat cereal, and hay. Tarra also cleared up Shirley's leftovers.
