CONCORDIA Parish (LSP) - Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 65 just south of Clayton, Louisiana. This crash claimed the life of a Ferriday man.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 Peterbilt 18-wheeler driven by 48-year-old Edward Herrington of Ovette, Mississippi was traveling north in the right lane. A 2012 Ford pick-up pulling a flatbed trailer driven by 57-year-old Richard S. McLain of Ferriday, Louisiana was on the right shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, the 18-wheeler traveled from the right lane to the right shoulder striking the flatbed trailer and pick-up truck.
McLain died from injuries sustained in the crash. A passenger in the pick-up, 56-year-old Louis White of Clayton, Louisiana was taken to Riverland Medical Center with moderate injuries. Herrington was not injured in the crash.
Impairment is not suspected. A routine toxicology sample was taken. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and being properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
In 2018, Troop E has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 11 deaths.
