FEMA flood victims will be charged rent starting March 1

Many families still living in FEMA mobile homes after flood of 2016

The Federal Emergency Management Agency provided Mobile homes to Louisiana flood victims impacted by the floods of 2016. The agency has announced an extension of the MHU or manufactured housing unit program, that will allow victims to stay a little longer, though the agency will start charging rent in March 2018.

Rents range from $789 per month for a one-bedroom unit to $1,155 for a three-bedroom unit.

State officials are preparing to appeal FEMA's rent requirements.

The federal agency had previously planned to end the program in February but was asked by the state to keep it going for at least 90 days.
