Father, daughter killed in SW Arkansas house fire

LEWISVILLE, Ark. (KTAL) - An early morning house fire claims the lives of a father and daughter in Lafayette Co., Arkansas.

The blaze broke out around 2 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 3rd St. and Warren in Lewisville.

A man woke up to a popping sound and ran next door when he saw the back of his neighbor's house engulfed in flames.

The man tried to help the father and daughter inside the home escape but he couldn't open the back door.

Officials say 82-year-old Roosevelt Johnson and 58-year-old Lois Johnson died in the fire.

The blaze destroyed the Johnson's home and the home of the neighbor who tried to rescue them.

Arkansas State Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
