City of Grambling celebrate ribbon cutting of "Walk of Fame"

GRAMBLING, La. - The cutting of a ribbon representing new beginnings for the town of Grambling.

It was a celebration of the town's pioneers through the dedication of their "Walk of Fame."

"We have different NFL/ NBA players, the mayors of the city of Grambling, various community and city leaders," said Mayor Edward Jones.

One of the 24 honored, Mayor Edward Jones.

"There's no better recognition than to be recognized by your peers," he said.

But this is not only a celebration of the legends but a new start for the town.

The "Walk of Fame" sits in the heart of the new retail plaza, Legends Square.

There is a Dollar Tree and Hibbett Sports already up and running, and the most exciting thing to come, a new grocery store.

"We have not had a grocery store since the late 70's, almost 50 years," said Edwards.

As for the current president and former student of Grambling, Rick Gallot, he also sees the impact it will bring to the university in the future to come.

"For those who come and visit the university and especially for football games and other activities, for them to see this economic growth, will certainly send a message versus just coming and seeing pine trees between the interstate and the campus," he said.
