Citizens left concerned over Delilah the deer

Monroe, La.-- - Near the Monroe Surgical Hospital some have seen what they call 'A real life' reindeer.

With Christmas only days away, you might be linking of Comet or Blitzen.

However, the deer near and dear to their heats is called Delilah.

"They named her Delilah," community member Jennifer Lingfelt said. "Delilah the deer."

It's unclear where Delilah came from, but we've been told she's been coming around for more than two years.

Community members said she brings smiles to many who are lucky enough to encounter her.

"They just love her to death. She doesn't harm anybody, she doesn't jump on you or attack you or anything- she's just there. You can call her name and you can come  up and feed her," Lingfelt added.

Yet, recently this doe has been drawing some complaints, getting the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries involved.

"All of a sudden they won't want her there. They want her dead," Lingfelt said.

Some fear that Delilah could cause someone to get hurt or may be difficult to catch.

"They said they can't tranquilize her because it will take 6 to 8 minutes to kick in and then she might run into traffic and cause a wreck," Lingfelt said.

However, community members such as Lingfelt fear for Delilah.

"It hurts because like I said she's not hurting anybody, she's not destroying anybody's property, she's just roaming around and that's her second home. She doesn't know any other way," she said.

Now they are pleading for another option for their furry friend.

"Please just don't kill her because she doesn't deserve to be killed. She hasn't hurt anybody she hasn't bit anybody she hasn't destroyed anything she just needs to live," Lingfelt said.

We reached out to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and are still waiting for a response.
