Bernice man arrested after stabbing stepfather with drill

UNION Parish - A Bernice area resident has been booked into the Union Parish Detention Center in Farmerville accused of domestic abuse aggravated battery.

James Duffy Houston, 28, is accused of stabbing his stepfather with a DeWalt drill the night of Sept. 15 at their residence on Louisiana Alternate 2, Sheriff Dusty Gates said.

Deputies reported that the incident occurred after the stepfather had told Houston to remove all the trash from his room.

Apparently after the incident, Houston his all-terrain vehicle to Reeves Memorial Hospital at Bernice where he claimed he had been placed in a headlock and kicked in the ribs by his stepfather. Deputies said Houston showed no marks on his body.

Deputies did observe a one-inch cut on the left side of the stepfather’s neck and a round stab wound on his right thigh. The report did not state whether the stepfather received any kind of medical treatment.

Deputies reported that Houston did not want charges filed against his stepfather and that the stepfather did not want charges filed against the defendant.

However, in domestic abuse cases, Gates said charges have to be filed per state law.
