2 Texas men arrested in Heroin bust

Were delivering 1 Kilo to Greensville, Mississippi

MONROE, La. - Two men have been arrested after being stopped while trying to deliver one kilo of Heroin.

Tomasi Malaki, 19 of Texas, and Faustino Ocampo, 20 of Texas, were arrested around 2:00 a.m. Monday morning.

On September 25, 2017, Troopers saw a Grey Chevrolet Malibu headed east on I-20 near mile marker 115.

The vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high speed and a radar check of the vehicle showed it was traveling 72 mph in a 60 mph zone.

The car also appeared to be following closely to a Uhaul truck, less than two car lengths behind.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Tomasi Malaki of Texas. Malaki said he was traveling to Greenville, Mississippi to drop off his passenger. Troopers made contact with the passenger later identified as Faustino Ocampo, and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Malaki stated he and the passenger had smoked Marijuana in the vehicle earlier.

A probable cause search was performed on the vehicle.

Troopers found approximately 1 Kilogram of Heroin in a plastic container located in the floorboard on the passenger’s side. Troopers also found 8 Xanax pills were found in the driver’s side door inside of a cigarette pack.

Ocampo admitted that Malaki picked him up in Austin to deliver the Heroin to Greenville, Mississippi where they would be paid $35,000 for delivery.

Both Ocampo and Malaki were both booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on 1 count Possession of Schedule I over 400 grams, Conspiracy to distribute Heroin, Possession of Schedule IV Xanax, Speeding 72/60 and following too close.

Ocampo’s bond was set at $80,000.00 and Malaki’s bond was set at $80,300.00
