MONROE -- Claps and cheers are heard as the American flag is raised on CenturyLink's future Technology Center of Excellence.

CenturyLink manager, Annmarie Sartor, says,"When a steel structure is completed and they place the last beam, there is an age old tradition called topping out."

"Its tradition for construction projects to raise the American flag after you top out the steel." adds Gary Culver, project manager.

Work on the structure began in March 2013, and the project manager of the building says they are making good progress.

"This is a huge part of the project. Right now we are about 65% complete. By March 2015, we will have people in the building," says Culver.

The technology center of excellence will house more CenturyLink offices and research labs. It will be home to about 800 to 850 employees.

"Right now we employee about two thousand people in the Monroe area, who work for us here in Monroe. We are gonna be adding to that number," says Sartor.

CenturyLink says they believe this center will be a major resource to the Monroe community.
