50th Anniversary of 1964 Civil Rights Act

Washington D.C. -- Today marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

By signing the act into law, President Lyndon B. Johnson changed America as it was known ...opening doors for not just blacks, but women and other minorities as well.

The law eliminated racial restrictions in public places, strengthened voting rights and outlawed discrimination.
