Cooley House Foundation Features Noted Author, Television Commentator & Hosts Annual Fundraiser

(MONROE, LA) - Architectural historian, prolific author, television commentator: the multi-faceted Richard Guy Wilson comes to Monroe for the second in this year's series of Cooley House Foundation Lectures.

Wilson will speak Thursday, April 25, at 6:00 pm, at Vantage Health Care (the historic Central Bank building), 300 DeSiard St., followed by the foundation's annual gala fundraiser at the garden district home of Marion and Tommy Zentner.

The Los Angeles native has taught at the University of Virginia Charlottesville since 1976 and is its Commonwealth Professor of Architectural History. Among his 15 books is "The Prairie School in Iowa." Wilson is also well-known to fans of the A&E television series "America's Castles," on which he was commentator over its four-year production run. His lecture is entitled Griffin and Mahony and the New American House.

Following the lecture, the Zentner's stately home will be the backdrop for the foundation's annual fundraiser, featuring fine food and drink in one of the most beautiful Greek Revival homes in the Deep South.

The lecture series is free. $50 gala tickets are available at the Masur Museum of Art or by calling 329-2237.

The Cooley House Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to preserve and restore one of the last surviving examples of Prairie School residential architecture in the South. Designed by Walter Burley Griffin for Gilbert B. Cooley in 1908, the City of Monroe purchased the property in 2008 and entered into a cooperative agreement with the foundation for the restoration of the historic home and gardens.
The lecture series is supported by a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council through the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts as administered by the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council.
