The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office had received a call about 2:30 p.m. Monday that a body was seen floating in the lake along Easy Living Road on the Downsville side of D’Arbonne.
Deputies recovered the body within an hour and it was sent to Little Rock, Ark., for an autopsy and possible identification.
Sheriff Dusty Gates said they were notified Wednesday that the autopsy and medical records tentatively identified Gray as the drowning victim.
The sheriff said that Gray had been identified as a possible suspect in an early morning burglary March 14 at Northside Pharmacy in Farmerville. Farmerville police had responded to a burglary in progress and the perpetrator managed to get into a vehicle.
Gates said the suspect’s vehicle was chased by police and sheriff’s deputies and the suspect abandoned his vehicle in the Easy Living Lane area and ran.
Gray was being sought in connection with the burglary and had not been seen until fishermen saw the body floating Monday.
Gates said the Farmerville Police Department is working the burglary part of the investigation.
