UPDATE: Peach Street Shooting Victim Arrested


UPDATE Thursday, 3:50 p.m. -- Monroe Police detectives report they have made an arrest in the shooting incident that happened at 2000 Peach Street on Tuesday night.

But it was the 16-year-old victim of that shooting who was arrested.

According to police, follow-up interviews with the victim revealed he was in possession of a handgun while at Carver Elementary School and shot himself accidentally.

The teen was arrested for Illegal Use of a Firearm and Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile.

Monroe Police said due to the injuries the 16-year-old male is still recovering from, he was released to his parents' custody.

The teen did not give any information regarding the location of the firearm at this time and it has still not been recovered.

Police report the teen also gave no motive regarding the possession of the firearm or the confrontation he had with other juveniles at the time of the incident.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.


(MONROE, LA) -- Monroe police are investigating a shooting Tuesday evening.

Police say a 16-year old was shot in the leg. 

Investigators believe the shooting may have happened near Carver Elementary School. The victim then made his way to Oak Manor Apartments on Peach Street to seek for help, according to police.

He was treated at a local hospital.

Initial reports indicate that two groups of juveniles began to fight at the school concerning a female when the shooting occurred.

Police say they are searching for a suspect and trying to determine a motive for the shooting. 

Detectives are continuing their investigation and have two persons of interest in this case, but have not developed any suspects nor do they have any suspect descriptions for release at this time.  

Detectives are also investigating the possibility of gang involvement related to this incident due to witness statements taken at the scene.  

The investigation is ongoing.
