OAKDALE, La. (WDSU) -- If he does report to Oakdale FCI in September, as anticipated, former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin will join a growing roster of civic and business leaders to serve time at the federal prison complex.

The minimum security prison currently houses former Worldcom CEO Bernie Ebbers and former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson. Like many of those housed at the facility, Ebbers and Jefferson were convicted of white collar crimes.

Among those who previously served time at Oakdale: former New Orleans City Council president Oliver Thomas; former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards; and former Louisiana Secretary of State Jim Brown.

The federal Bureau of Prisons, which operates the facility, says about 1,600 inmates are kept there.
