MONROE -- Police say two shootings over the weekend in Monroe may be connected.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, a group of 20 to 30 people began fighting in the area of South Second and Beauregard Streets.

Police say shots were fired, and three people were injured. Just a short while later a drive by shooting was reported on Hippolyte Street.

Police say both shootings are still being investigated, but say the need for community help is greatly needed.

"We've got to get the community involved because like this weekend for example most of the people out there the 20 to 30 kids that were out there fighting were teenagers. We need the parents and the adults to also be more accountable” said Chief Quentin Holmes.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Monroe Police at (318) 329-2600 or Crimestoppers at (318)-388-CASH.
