New Orleans -- (WDSU) Authorities said the body and vehicle of a missing UNO student were found Wednesday.

A heavy police presence and a helicopter were at the scene in Irish Bayou in the search for 19-year-old Hayley Howard.

A tow truck arrived at the scene where a silver car was pulled from the water.

Police said Howard's body was found in the vehicle.

According to police, Howard appeared to crash into the bayou. Foul play was not immediately suspected and the investigation was being treated as a fatal accident. Ttoxicology test will be performed.

Howard was last seen Saturday about 1:50 a.m. on UNO’s campus.

Her family says she was on her way home to Slidell when her 2002 Toyota Corolla with the Louisiana license plate XBP 643 had a flat tire. A group of people helped her fix it. Then she mysteriously disappeared.

NOPD said her cellphone pinged in the area of the Leon C. Simon Drive at about 2 a.m. and near the Irish Bayou cell tower about 6 a.m. Saturday.

She was intoxicated, according to police.

Since her disappearance, thousands of fliers have been posted on UNO’s campus, the Marigny, French Quarter, other parts of New Orleans, Slidell and Baton Rouge.
