Veterans Treated to Steak Dinner in Monroe

MONROE -- North Louisiana veterans were treated to steak at an annual event at the veteran's home on Highway 165 in Monroe.

The steak dinner was organized by the volunteer organization CABLE or Communities Acting to Benefit Louisiana's Elderly.

Along with the steak dinner, northeast Louisiana veterans home veterans could make their own ice cream sundae.

Organizers say the dinner is a way of honoring the veterans for their service.

"They've given so much of themselves so that we can live in a very blessed country and live the lives that we live, said Jennifer Bass with CABLE, a volunteer organization. "And it's our responsibility to give back to them when we can."

The dining hall was decorated in celebration of this Saturday's Flag Day.

A Cowboy Gospel Band traveled from Union Parish to sing patriotic songs and gospel tunes.
