MOREHOUSE PARISH -- In Morehouse Parish on Saturday, more than 100 people gathered in a rabbit hunt for wounded veterans.

The nonprofit organization, Louisiana Hunters For Heroes, hosted a dozen wounded veterans -- treating them to hot meals and a rabbit hunt around Chemin-A-Haut State Park in Morehouse Parish.
But in addition to the honored hunters, 135 people from around the region showed up in support of the veterans.

"Some places you go, you don't get much support, but some places, like Bastrop, you can find the right person and everybody turned out wanting to help up here in this community. It's a great community," said  Donnie Vocker, president of LA Hunters for Heroes.

Nine of the honored wounded veterans were from Fort Polk and the other three were from Fort Sam Houston in Texas.
Organizers say they hope the large turnout shows the need for support of wounded veterans in our state and beyond.
